Mary Garrett Pillow

Mary Garrett Pillow, 71, of 6231 Covered Bridge Road, Gladys left this earthly world to be with her maker and reunited with her daughter on Sunday, Nov.17, 2013, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Walter Lester Pillow for 41 years.

She was born June 5, 1942 in Appomattox a daughter of the late Thomas Abner Garrett and Mary Robertson Garrett.  She was a long-time member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, has recently attended Kedron Baptist Church and was a secretary for Pillow Logging Co. and a homemaker.  

Mary was a faithful member of Troop #220 for 10 years, Gideon Brookneal Camp as a former president and current chaplain and American Legion Post 52 Ladies Auxiliary, Brookneal where she was a former chaplain.

She is survived by three sons, W. L. Pillow and his wife, Cori, Al Ensley and his wife, Tammy, Gladys and Bobby Ensley and his wife, Lisa, all of Appomattox; two brothers, William Garrett and his wife, Mary Ann, and David Garrett all of Evergreen; eight grandchildren, Kevin Ensley, Dana Ensley, Logan Ensley, Ryan Yeatts, Kenny Ensley Jr. and fiancé Emily, Darrell Ensley and his wife, Jessie, Kim Ensley, William Pillow; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Grace Ensley, Tyler, Brittany and Madison Ensley.   

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Pillow; four brothers, Charlie, Robert, Herbert and Garland Garrett; and a sister, Eunice G. Crews.

The Rev. Brad Hendricks, the Rev. Mike Spence, the Rev. Bryan Reynolds and the Rev. Terry Wiler will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the residence.
