Mr. Decatur Milton Overbey of Virgilina died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at his home. He was born in Mecklenburg County on June 2, 1925 and was 88 years old. He was the son of the late Walter Overbey and the late Sally Puryear Overbey and was married to the late Elizabeth Newton Overbey.
Mr. Overbey was a member of the Hitesburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, clerk, treasurer, R.A. leader and Sunday school teacher. He also served as the Sunday school superintendent, trustee and choir member. Mr. Overbey was a WWII Army veteran.
Survivors include one son, Donald D. Overbey and wife Yvonne of Ringgold; two grandchildren, Beth Ralston of Virgilina and Joe Councill of Md.; his special caregivers, Virginia Miller and Brenda Ballou; one brother, Robert Overbey of Nelson; three sisters, Margie Nelson of Nelson, Faye McGaughey of Greenville, S.C. and Holly Crenshaw of Victoria.
One daughter, Wanda O. Carter; four brothers, Walter, Lacy, Marion and Charlie Overbey; and one sister, Florine Moorefield, also preceded Mr. Overbey in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Overbey will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Hitesburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Riley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home, 2244 Aarons Creek Road, Virgilina.
