Mr. James Calvin “Mosquito” Barksdale of Wild Turkey Run, Halifax died on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at his residence at the age of 87.
Mr. Barksdale was born in Halifax County on Feb. 2, 1936 to the late Mr. Arthur Lee Barksdale and Mrs. Emma Crews Barksdale. He was married to Mrs. Ida Edmonds Barksdale and was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church.
Mr. Barksdale is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Edmonds Barksdale, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Dillard, and husband Curley of Lynchburg; one son, Mr. Robert Edmonds, and wife Carmen of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Isabel Williams of Halifax and Mrs. Rosa Lee Womack of Vernon Hill; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Isabel Womack and Mrs. Louise Womack, both of Halifax; one brother-in-law, Mr. Onzie Womack, of Halifax, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Annie B. Chaney, Mrs. Mary L. Llewellyn and Ms. Margaret Barksdale; and four brothers, Mr. Tommie Barksdale, Mr. Junior J. Barksdale, Mr. Charlie Barksdale and Mr. Arthur Lee Barksdale Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. James Calvin Barksdale will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at New Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1153 Wild Turkey Run, Halifax.
