Mrs. Maude Izetta Tucker Austin of East Elkhorn Road, Java died at her residence Friday, Oct. 18, at the age of 90.
Mrs. Austin was born in Halifax County on Sept. 13, 1923 to the late Mr. Melvin Tucker and Mrs. Sarah Harris Tucker. She was married to the late Rev. Roy I. Austin Jr. and was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church. Mrs. Austin was a retired Meadville Elementary School teacher.
Survivors of Mrs. Austin include three daughters, Mrs. Vivian Deborah Seay and Mrs. Phyllis Antionette Sekpeh, both of Halifax, and Ms. Bonita Austin Taylor and husband Kevin of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one son, Mr. Andrew Phillip Austin, of Halifax; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ms. Amazie Terry of Java; one brother, Mr. Loyal Tucker of Java; one devoted cousin, Ms. Tessie Bullock; and and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, one daughter, Ms. Ernestine Izetta Johnson, one son, Mr. Isaiah Clark Austin, three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Pannell, Mrs. Lucy Stephens and Mrs. Rosa Watson; and four brothers, Mr. Willis Tucker, Mr. James Tucker, Mr. Hampton Tucker and Mr. Harold Tucker, also preceded Mrs. Austin in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at Elkhorn Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. C. Lewis Motley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence, 1240 East Elkhorn Road, Java.
