Mrs. Mary Jane Bryant Bell of Howard P. Anderson Highway, Halifax, formerly of Oak City, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 20, at her residence at the age of 80.
Mrs. Bell was born in North Carolina on Sept. 18, 1933 to the late Mr. Claude Bryant and Mrs. Ethel Lynch Bryant. She was married to the late Mr. Earnest Bell and was a member of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Betty Carr, and husband the Rev. Dr. William F. Carr of Halifax; two sons, Mr. Claude Bell of Durham, N.C. and Mr. Alvin Bell of Halifax; three grandchildren, Ms. LaTonya Carr of Leonardtown, Md., Mrs. Jacqueline Garner and husband Greg of Durham and Mr. Alvin Bell Jr. of Halifax; three great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Juwan and Sydney; a special son, Mr. Richard Middleton; four devoted brothers, Mr. Claude Bryant and wife Florence, Mr. Willie Bryant and wife Ollie, Mr. Herman Bryant and Mr. Ballie Bryant and wife Essie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including her faithful caregivers, Judy Jones and Kimberly Moore.
In addition to her parents and husband, one daughter, Terria; five brothers, Reddick, James, Joseph, Earnest and Spencer; and one sister, Olivia, also preceded Mrs. Bell in death.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Palmyra, N.C. with the Rev. Dr. William F. Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Bell family cemetery in Oak City.
Public visitation for family and friends will be Friday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax.
The family is receiving friends at the residence 2048 Howard P. Anderson Highway, Halifax.
