Mr. John Whitt Jr. of South Boston died Oct. 9, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center at the age of 84. Mr. Whitt was born Aug. 23, 1929 in Virgilina.
Mr. Whitt was a member of South Boston Church of God, American Legion Post 8 and VFW Post 8243. After his retirement from Westinghouse, Mr. Whitt worked part-time for Crowell Motor Company. He was employed by Westinghouse (ABB) as an operator and served in the Army.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel K. Whitt, of South Boston; one brother, Talmadge Whitt, of South Boston; three sisters, Alma Green of Red Oak, Gladys Lewis of South Boston and Bobbie Jean Lunsford of Creedmoor, N.C.; a number of nieces and nephews; and a number of special friends including Donald Guthrie.
Mr. Whitt was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie Green Whitt and Willie Ida Ford Whitt; brothers Rufus Whitt, William Whitt, Levi Whitt and Franklin Whitt; and one sister, Hazel E. Whitt.
Funeral services for Mr. John Whitt Jr. will be held at Brooks Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Stigile officiating. Interment will be at Shady Grove UMC cemetery.
Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
