Mrs. Shirley Mae Dunn Murphy of Washington, D.C. and formerly of Halifax County died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the age of 74.
Mrs. Murphy was born in South Boston on Oct. 3, 1938 to the late Mr. Linwood Dunn Sr. and Mrs. Mary Lawson Dunn.
She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Crawley and husband John of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Arlene Crawley and husband William of Newport News and Mrs. Marion Skipper and husband Willie of Virgilina; three brothers, Mr. Linwood Dunn Jr. and wife Dorothy of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mr. Thomas Dunn and wife Joyce of Nyack, N.Y. and Mr. Robert Dunn and wife Linda of Timberlake, N.C.; three aunts, Mrs. Lillian Pointer, Mrs. Nannie Sue Lawson and Mrs. Ella Carrington; one uncle, Mr. Herbert Lawson, of Baltimore, Md.; one adopted sister, Mrs. Marion Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Murphy will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at noon at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. H. M. Pettiford officiating. Burial will follow in Dan River Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
