Mr. Julian Randolph Harrison Jr. of South Boston died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. He was born in Suffolk County May 20, 1937 and was 76 years of age.
He was the son of the late Julian Randolph Harrison Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Whitmore Harrison and is survived by his wife, Mary Dudley Harrison.
Mr. Harrison attended First Baptist Church in South Boston, served on the Southside Virginia Community College Board, the VASAP Board, was retired from Halifax County Public Schools after 30 years and was active with the Retired Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dudley Harrison, of South Boston; one daughter, Robin Harrison Mitchell, and husband Bob of South Boston; one son, Julian Randolph “Trey” Harrison III, of Haw River, N.C.; four grandchildren, Meagan Lee Owen and husband Jared of Virgilina, Monica Clare Mears and husband Robert of Chincoteague, Olivia Jennings and Laurel Jennings, both of South Boston; one great-grandson, Brecken Sawyer Mears of Chincoteague.
Funeral services for Mr. Harrison Jr. will be held at the First Baptist Church, Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, Friday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home, 2110 Rivoli Street, South Boston.
