Mrs. Irene Chambers Chappell of Meadville Trail, Halifax died Sunday, Sept. 22, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 92.
Mrs. Chappell was born in Halifax County on Jan. 19, 1921 to the late Mr. Thomas Chambers and Mrs. Daisy Lovelace Chambers. She was married to the late Mr. Ernest Chappell.
She is survived by six sons, Mr. Bobbie Chappell and wife Mamie of Conn., Mr. Alexander Chappell and wife Gloria of Del., Mr. John Chappell, Mr. Earnest Chappell, Mr. William Chappell and Mr. Ronnie Chappell, all of Halifax; nine daughters, Mrs. Annie Jones and husband Richard of Conn., Ms. Mary Hendricks, Ms. Shirley Boyd, Ms. Mildred Jones, Mrs. Carolyn Farmer and husband Edward, Ms. Elizabeth Chaney, Ms. Kathryn Chappell, Ms. Nancy Waller and Mrs. Belinda Word and husband, Gordon, all of Halifax; 63 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ms. Mary Cage, Ms. Annie Davis and Ms. Alice Jennings, all of Halifax; two brothers, Mr. Joseph Chambers and Mr. Barkley Chambers, both of Halifax; one aunt and best friend Ms. Jannie Lovelace; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including Ms. Brenda Bowman and Ms. Catherine Chandler.
In addition to her husband and parents, one baby girl, three sisters, Ms. Gerline Canada, Ms. Joyce Canada and Ms. Carrie Sydnor, and five brothers, Henry, James, Howard, Alexander and Thomas Chambers, preceded Mrs. Chappell in death.
Funeral services for Mrs. Chappell will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Crawford House Chapel in Halifax with District Elder Bernard Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1032 Meadville Trail, Halifax. Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax.
