Mr. Hugh Tyrus Edmondson of J.D. Hagood Highway, Clover died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at his home. He was born May 6, 1919 in Halifax County and was 94 years of age. He was the son of the late Frank Edward Edmondson and Mabel Ligon Edmondson and was also preceded in death by his wife, Grace Nichols Edmondson.
Mr. Edmondson was a member of Scottsburg United Methodist Church where he was a church treasurer for 49 years, and was also a member of the church choir. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #270, and was an Army veteran having served as a Sgt. In World War II.
Survivors of Mr. Edmondson include his daughter-in-law, Faye Edmondson of Clover; two step-grandchildren, Michelle Womack and Jason Toombs, both of Clover; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Frankie Edmondson of Clover; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, McDonald Edmondson of Victoria.
In addition to his parents and wife, one son, Hugh Branford Edmondson; one sister, Cornelia E. Midkiff; and one brother, Holt Edmondson, also preceded Mr. Edmondson in death.
Funeral services will be held at Powell Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, with the Rev. Mary Tharpe officiating. Burial will follow in the Clover Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service and other times at his home, 10028 J.D. Hagood Hwy., Clover, VA.
