Mr. Charlie D. Perkins of Vernon Hill died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at VCU in Richmond. He was born Aug. 29, 1936 in Halifax County and was 77 years of age. Mr. Perkins was the son of the late Isaac Leonidas Perkins and Ethel Perkins Perkins and is survived by his wife, Carolyn Womack Perkins.
He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Angelia Perkins Bailey of Vernon Hill and Kristie Perkins Carlson and Jeff of South Boston; one son, Gregory Shane Perkins, and Jennifer of Vernon Hill; eight grandchildren, Erika Conner, Jake and Chae Bailey, Cheyenne Perkins, Kylie Conner, Zack and Austin Carlston and Elijah Roark; two great-grandchildren, Janaeh Bailey and Mila Conner; two sisters, Mabel Conner of Halifax and Hazel Hersman of Richmond.
Three brothers, Christopher, Andrew and Daniel Perkins, also preceded Mr. Perkins in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Centerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at his home, 1051 Loop Road, Vernon Hill.
