Mr. James Alfred Childrey of Bellevue Road, Halifax died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. He was 77.
Mr. Childrey was born in Halifax County on July 17, 1936 to the late James Robert Childrey and Sarah Louise Guthrie Childrey and was married to Sonia Booth Childrey. He was of the Baptist faith and was a self-employed farmer.
In addition to his wife, Sonia Booth Childrey, of Halifax, he is survived by one son, Michael C. Childrey of Reidsville, N.C.; a daughter, Lisa C. Eakes of Halifax; four sisters, Betty C. Tuck of Cloverdale, Sarah C. Powell of Scottsburg, Charlotte C. Johnson of Drakes Branch, and Becky C. Allen of Halifax; two brothers, Thomas Childrey of Lawrenceville and Louis Childrey of South Boston.
Mr. Childrey was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Childrey, and one sister, Mabel Johnson.
A funeral for Mr. James Alfred Childrey will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pastor Chris McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends and family at a visitation service held at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and other time times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Bible Baptist Church, 3401 Old Halifax Road, Suite A, South Boston, VA 24592 or a charity of choice.
