Major Mitchell Carrington of Love Shop Park Road, South Boston died Sunday, Sept. 1, at his residence at the age of 73.
Mr. Carrington was born in Halifax County on March 11, 1940 to the late Mr. Clem Jasper Carrington and Mrs. Carrie Talley Carrington. He was married to Mrs. Frances Johnson Carrington and was a member of Bread of Life Church, Danville.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Carrington is survived by two daughters, Amy Carrington Brooks and husband Donnell and Dr. Pamela Carrington-Cooper and husband Terry, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Major Eric Carrington of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Joylette Carrington, of Delaware City, Del., Gladys Carden and husband Calvin of Clover, Louise Williams and husband Timothy and Phoebe Sims, both of South Boston; three brothers, his twin, John Carrington and wife Margie of Newport News, James Carrington and wife Mary of Hampton and Raymond Carrington and wife Phillias of Virgilina; two sisters-in-law, Roselle Carrington and Otelia Carrington; one brother-in-law, Elijah Johnson; three aunts, Gracie Stanfield, Katie Williams and Cecelia Crutchfield and husband Jessie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, one daughter, Elaine Carrington; and two brothers, Gilmore Carrington and Robert Carrington, also preceded Mr. Carrington in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at White Oak Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Louise Williams, 104 Love Shop Park Road, Lot 60, South Boston.
