Mr. Irvin Layne Smith of Scottsburg died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 3, 1936 and was 77 years of age.
He was the son of the late Willie Smith and Flossie Hatcher Smith and is survived by his wife, Eugenia Landrum Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of Scottsburg Baptist Church and was a U. S. Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jane Smith Conner and husband Billy of Scottsburg and Brenda Smith Crews and husband Mike of Carrollton; four grandsons, Chris Conner of Charlotte, N.C., Derek Conner of Scottsburg, Joseph Crews and wife Anna, and Jacob Crews, all of Carrollton; three sisters, Mildred Thomas and Frances Whitt, both of South Boston, and Livian Langford of Chesterfield.
A graveside service for Mr. Smith will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Smutz officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1089 Coleman Road, Scottsburg.
