Mrs. Bernice Landrum Barley of 2086 Deer Run Road, Halifax died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at The Woodview.
She was born in Halifax County on Oct. 30, 1934 and was 78 years old. She was the daughter of the late Polly Landrum and Mamie Satterfield Landrum and was married to Clyde Wayne Barley Sr.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Wayne Barley Sr., of Halifax; one daughter, Linda Pittman, and husband David of South Boston; one son, Michael Toombs, and wife Vicki of Halifax; four step-children, Clyde Wayne Barley Jr. of Norfolk, Dale Chaney of Afghanistan, Gail Burnett of Danville and Renita Kencoski of Chatham; one sister, Jenny Noblin, of South Boston; two brothers, David Landrum of Danville and Doug Landrum of Halifax; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Toombs Jr., and by two brothers, H. B. Landrum Sr. and Joseph Landrum Sr.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with the Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
