Mrs. Odell (Dell) Frances Carmichael Wilson of Rock Hill, S.C., formerly of Ruckersville and South Boston, passed away peacefully on Aug. 16.
She was born in Halifax County on March 27, 1930, to the late Mamie and Lorenzo Carmichael. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe David Wilson; brothers, Sam, Walter, Harry and Lloyd; her sister, Estelle Nelson; and son-in-law, Roy Cheatham.
Odell was a retired homemaker. She was a charter member of the Center United Church of Christ in South Boston. She was a former member of the South Boston Eastern Star.
Odell had many hobbies. She was an exceptional gardener and could bring back plants from the brink of death. She especially took satisfaction in sewing her daughters’ clothes throughout high school and college and even made several outfits for their honeymoons. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Cheatham Schropp and husband Larry and Jo Ann Hasenfus and husband Ray, all of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandchildren Melissa Parker (Jared) of Lake Wylie, S.C., David Cheatham (Laura) of Longmont, Col., Mark Cheatham of Lafeyette, Col.; two step-grandchildren, Jim Schropp of Kannapolis, N.C., and Matt Schropp (Kayla) of Asheville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Drew and Sam Parker and Calla Cheatham; one step-grandchild, Nathaniel Schropp; one sister, Rosa Sharp, of Halifax, and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Wilson were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C. with the Rev. Gerald Bennett officiating. Burial followed at Forest Hills Cemetery.
The family received friends from 3 until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at the home of Ray and Jo Ann Hasenfus, 415 Presidio Drive, Rock Hill, S. C. 29732.
