Mrs. Lovie Margaret Parker Jones of South Boston died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1920 in Johnston County, North Carolina and was 92 years old. She was the daughter of the late Ezra Parker and the late Lovie Denning Parker and was married to the late Eugene Orr Jones.
She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was an avid sports fan who excelled in tennis and basketball. Her grandsons’ ballgames brought her great joy and her knowledge of the game kept the umpires honest.
Mrs. Lovie Margaret Parker Jones is survived by: one daughter, Peggy Crews, and husband Jimmy of Halifax; two grandsons, Jamie Eugene Crews and wife Joy of Athens, Ala. and Adam Parker Crews of South Boston; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Marie Crews, of Athens, Ala.; and special friend and caretaker, Marie Alderson, of Vernon Hill.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Al Parker and David Henry Parker.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Rigg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter at 1012 Evergreen Trail in Halifax.
