Mr. James Edward Snead of 1075 Paradise Road, Alton passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 87.
Mr. Snead was born June 20, 1926 in Halifax County to the late Richard Walden Snead and Bessie Moorefield Snead and was married to Jackie H. Snead who survives.
Mr. Snead was a retired maintenance employee with the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He attended Centerville Baptist Church.
Mr. James Edward Snead is survived by his wife, Jackie H. Snead of Alton; two daughters, Carrie S. Murray and husband Mike of Alton and L. Dale Snead of South Boston; two step-daughters, Cheri L. Dease of Halifax and Lindy L. Heath of Roxboro, N.C.; a step-son, J. Robbie Lloyd, of South Boston; five brothers, Johnny Snead and Lonnie Snead, both of Clover, Robert Snead of South Boston, Cecil Snead of Mechanicsville and Roger Snead of South Boston; four sisters, Edna Hatcher of Dryburg, Edith Francis of Clover, Nancy Lowery of South Boston and Shirley Snead of Scottsburg; a granddaughter, Kristal Bogan, and husband Cameron; great-grandchildren Madisyn and Kinsley Bogan; a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Walden Snead and Bessie Moorefield Snead; one brother, Richard Snead; one step-son, Chuck Lloyd, and one step-grandson, Brian Lloyd.
Graveside services for Mr. Snead were held Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at his home, 1074 Paradise Road, Alton.
