Mr. Bennie Bernard Hawkins Jr. of Lynchburg, formerly of South Boston, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Campbell County on March 16, 1923 and was 90 years old. He was the son of the late Bennie Bernard Hawkins Sr. and the late Myra Morris Hawkins and married to Louise Powell Hawkins, who survives.
He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and a WWII Army veteran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 8 and a retired supervisor from Dominion Virginia Power.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Powell Hawkins, of Lynchburg; one sister, Phyllis Ann Hawkins Roakes, of Gladys; two brothers, David Clark Hawkins of Roanoke and Walsa Morris Hawkins of Gladys; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Paxton Hawkins; and three sisters, Laura Alice Hawkins, Frances Hawkins Chenault and Katherine Hawkins Kelly.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church following the services.
