Merlene Wade Hardie of Halifax died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on March 25, 1936 and was 77 years old. She was the daughter of the late Jimmy Thornton Wade and the late Ozelia Hendricks Wade and married to the late John William Hardie for 58 years.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dale H. Sparks of Halifax and Donna H. Henderson and husband L.W. of Oak Level; a son-in-law, Dan C. Monette, of Chesterfield; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Scott Adams, Joey Adams and wife Stephanie and their son, Jace, Kevin Henderson and wife Crystal and their children, Maci, Bailee and Addilynn, Brian Lee Henderson and wife Cathy and their child, Brinlee, Sara Beth Glass and her son, Alex, all of Halifax, and John Collins and Leigh Monette, both of Chesterfield; one brother, Malcolm Wade and wife Sue of Evington; special aunt, Dorothy Gilliland of Nathalie.
One daughter, Denise Monette, also preceded Mrs. Hardie in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bryant Wilbourne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will received friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at her home, 1052 Leighwood Trail, Halifax.
