Mrs. Josephine Bates Holt of Meadow Drive, South Boston died on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 95.
Mrs. Holt was born in Halifax County on May 24, 1918 to the late Mr. James Bates and Mrs. Bessie Bowman Bates. She was married to the late Mr. Clifton Lawrence Holt and was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses South Boston congregation.
She is survived by, one devoted daughter, Mrs. Eunice H. Easley, of South Boston; one granddaughter, Mrs. Eunice H. Williams and husband, Reginald Sr. of Charlotte Court House; three great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Mr. Rolling S. Hodge, of Charlotte Court House; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Louella D. Bates, of Crystal Hill, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Mae Frances Hodge; four sisters, Ms. Mary E. Bates, Mrs. Annie Noblin, Mrs. Rosa Stovall and Ms. Mamie Bates; five brothers, Mr. Willie Bates, Mr. Robert Bates, Mr. Harry Bates, Mr. Charlie Bates and Mr. James Henry Bates; and one son-in-law, Mr. Therman Easley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Holt will be Saturday, June 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Brother LeDon Chappell officiating. Burial will follow in the Crystal Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 121 Meadow Drive, South Boston.
