Mrs. Martha Pearl Long Morgan of South Boston died Wednesday, June 5, at Berry Hill Nursing Home at the age of 105.
Mrs. Morgan was born in Halifax County on April 10, 1908 to the late Mr. John Long and Mrs. Amanda Robinson Long. She was married to the late Mr. John H. Morgan and was a member of Dan River Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Garrett and husband Jerome of Temple Hills, Md.; four sons, Mr. Edward Morgan and wife Savannah, Mr. Malcolm Morgan and wife Sue, Mr. Joe Morgan and Mr. Richard Morgan and wife Vernisa, all of South Boston; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by one son, Mr. John Thomas Morgan; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Cunningham, Mrs. Lizzie Fields, Mrs. Sally Turner and Mrs. Caroline Oliver; five brothers, Mr. William Long, Mr. Johnnie Long, Mr. Robert Long, Mr. Herbert Long and her twin, Mr. George Long; and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Mary Morgan and Mrs. Zader Morgan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morgan will be Monday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at Dan River Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Mr. Malcolm and Mrs. Sue Morgan, 1015 Morgan Lane, South Boston. Public viewing for family and friends will be Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
