Mr. Al Bailey Ferrell of Webster Street, South Boston died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at The Woodview at the age of 98.
Mr. Ferrell was born in Halifax County on April 1, 1915 to the late Mr. Sam Pat Ferrell and Mrs. Alberta Marable Ferrell. He was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Larry Watts of Hampton, Mr. Bruce Watts of Norfolk and Mr. Lewis Ferrell of South Boston; seven daughters, Mrs. Deloris Dickerson of Montross, Mrs. Abigail Richardson of Portsmouth, Mrs. Jacy Watts-Cox of Buford, Ga., Mrs. Hazel Wood of Delaware, Mrs. Hervoline Williams of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs Delois Ferrell of South Boston and Mrs. Mary Nanny of Florida; a host of grandchildren including Mr. Russell Hicks of Buford, Mr. Herman E. Lee III and Mrs. Lynn Campbell, both of Montross; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, two children, Mrs. Juanita Bigelow and Mr. Edgar Ferrell; 11 siblings, Hattie, Henry, James, Douglas, Bessie, Herbert, Luther, Edgar, Margaret, Ruby and Hattie Belle, also preceded Mr. Ferrell in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at New Vernon Baptist Church with Elder William Howerton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church Saturday. All family members, following the procession to New Vernon Baptist Church, meet at Jeffress Funeral Home by noon.
