Mr. Royal Douglas ‘Bill’ Brandon Jr. of Mason Chapel Road, Alton died May 26, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 83.
Mr. Brandon was born in Halifax County on Oct. 5, 1929 and was the son of the late Mr. Royal Douglas Brandon Sr. and Mrs. Eunice B. Brandon. He was married to Mrs. Carolyn Womack Brandon and was a member Faith Community Mission, serving as chairman of the board of deacons. A local farmer and businessman, Mr. Brandon was co-founder of Brandon’s Enterprises.
Mr. Brandon is survived by his wife of 58 years; four children, Mr. Douglas Brandon and wife Levern, Bishop James Brandon and Mr. Stanley Brandon and wife Angela, all of Alton, and Ms. Carolyn West of San Gabriel, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Mrs. Lucy Woods and husband Odie of Inglewood, Calif., Mrs. Annie Richmond and husband Elbert of Milton, N.C., Mrs. Helen Richmond and husband Hurley of Silver Spring, Md. and Mrs. Carolyn Taylor and husband Lee of Roanoke; devoted brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. Calvin Cheek Sr. of South Boston, and Mrs. Myrtle Brandon of Alton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brandon was preceded in death by six siblings, John, Richard, Sally, Josephine, Curtis and William.
A celebration of life service for Mr. Brandon will be held Friday, May 31, at noon at Grace Baptist Church, Buckshoal Road, Virgilina with the Rev. Anthony Jones officiating.
Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 2091 Mason Chapel Road, Alton.
