Mr. James Gray Davis of Scottsburg died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Grayson County on June 3, 1929 and was 83 years old. He was the son of the late Reginald Clare Davis Sr. and the late Gladys Mae Moore Davis and is survived by his wife, Leta McCormick Davis.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the Beta Company, The Craddock-Terry Shoe Factory and the First Baptist Church, South Boston.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Leta McCormick Davis, of Scottsburg; one son, Jon Davis, and wife Jodi of Frederick, Md.; one granddaughter, Amy Davis, of Frederick, Md.; three brothers, William L. Davis of Bluefield, W.Va., Felix T. Davis of Aberdeen, Md., and Douglas Davis of Churchville, Md.; one sister, Marlyn Crouse, of Sparta, N.C.
He was preceded in death by, one brother, Reginald Clare Davis Jr.; and two sisters, Barbara Davis and Iona Hagen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs Greg McCormick and William “Bill” Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 3, 2013, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home.
