Roy Lee Williams, 72, of Reidsville, N.C. completed his life’s journey Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. surrounded by his loving family.
Roy Lee was a native of Rockingham County, born on Dec. 15, 1940, the son of John Paul Williams and Ruby Murphy Carter. He was a 1959 graduate of Mayodan High School and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Carolina University in 1963.
He retired from Mecklenburg County Correctional Center in Boydton with 14 years of service. He was also a long-time employee of Craddock-Terry in Halifax.
In addition to his parents, Roy Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Wayne Carter.
He is survived by three daughters, Leigh Anne Sparks of Summerfield, Jennifer Williams Mallory and husband Brian of Greensboro, N.C., and Tammi Williams Shirey and husband Stephen of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Hazenberg and husband Richard, Joshua Sparks, Ethan King, Jessica King and Addison Shirey; great-granddaughter Lyla Hazenberg; sister Kathy Pearce and husband Bob of High Point, N.C.; brothers Johnny Carter and wife Susan of Greensboro, N.C., Jimmy Carter of High Point, N.C.; niece Elizabeth and nephews Kris and Derek.
A 3 p.m. memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ray Funeral Home in Madison is serving the Williams family.
