Mr. Nathaniel Wilson ‘Nat’ Covington, Jr. of Richmond died Saturday, March 30, 2013. He was born and raised in Halifax County and was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel W. Covington Sr. and Mary Sibley Covington; and his siblings, Thomas Kent Covington and Virginia C. Duke.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Arnice Nichols Covington; and beloved children, Dr. Katheryn C. Black of Cumming, Ga. and Nathaniel Kent Covington of New York City.
Mr. Covington served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Force on Okinawa and Guam during World War II. After the war he received a B.S. from VA. Tech, an MSW from Florida State, joined the FBI as an agent after which he began his career in insurance and financial planning. He was a former member of River Road Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He was an avid tennis player for over 50 years, having played twice weekly until he was 85.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 2, for the family at Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Halifax County.
