Mr. Thomas Skinner Lovelace of South Boston died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Berry Hill Nursing Home. He was born in Halifax County on January 14, 1924 and was 89 years old.
He was the son of the late Charles Branch Lovelace and the late Minnie Skinner Lovelace and was married to Carolyn Massengill Lovelace who survives.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and elder and taught Sunday school for over 20 years. He also taught Sunday school at the Berry Hill Presbyterian Church for over 10 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran where he served in Africa and Naples, Italy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8.
Mr. Lovelace was retired from the United States Postal Service after 38 years of service. He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Mr. Thomas Skinner Lovelace is survived by his wife, Carolyn Massengill Lovelace, of South Boston; one son, Charles Thomas ‘Tommy” Lovelace, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; three grandchildren, Charles Branch Lovelace, James Quarles Lovelace and Matthew Ora Lovelace; and one niece, Cheryl Burns, of Nashville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Branch Lovelace Jr.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee officiating.
