Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gwyer Moorefield of Halifax died Monday, March 18, 2013, at her home. She was born April 10, 1934 in Allegheny County, Pa. She was the daughter of the late William O. Gwyer and Carrie Elizabeth Thomas Gwyer and was married to Elijah Daniel ‘Danny’ Moorefield Jr.
Mrs. Moorefield was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, member of the Tuesday Woman’s Club and was a caretaker for children for 45 years.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two daughters, Amy Carol Lowery Barden and Tommy of Charles City and Patricia Ann Fallen Puryear and Kelly of Halifax; four sons, Monty Lane Lowery and Vanessa, and Timothy Clay Lowery, both of Alton, Michael Scott Moorefield of Virgilina and Thomas Allen Moorefield of Virginia Beach; two brothers, James Gwyer and Anita of Augusta, Ga. and David Dwyer and Kathy of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Luci Mae Oco Lowery of Catawba, N.C.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, one son, Vance Eric Lowery, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services for Mrs. Moorefield will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
