Mrs. Betty Joy Yancey Walton of Roxboro, N.C. died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro at the age of 75.
Mrs. Walton was born in Halifax County on March 31, 1937 to the late Mr. Ed Yancey and Mrs. Queen Victoria Jennings Yancey. She was married to the late Mr. Edward Walton and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and later attended St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors of Mrs. Walton include four sons, Retired Sgt. First Class Joseph Walton of Hopewell, Retired Master Sgt. Charlie Walton and wife Gina, of Summerville, S.C., Mr. George Walton and wife Kathy, of Danville, and Mr. Bobby Walton of Baltimore, Md.; four daughters, Mrs. Linda Jennings and husband Walter, and Mrs. Vonnie Jones, both of South Boston, Mrs. Mary Humphrey and husband Tracey, of Roxboro, N.C. and Mrs. Betty Furman and husband Bob, of Alton; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Goods and husband Bill, of Roxboro, Ms. Susie Yancey, Mrs. Mattie Harris and Mrs. Lillie Williams, all of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Mr. Henry Yancey and wife Betty, of Alton, and Mr. Alexander ‘Buster’ Yancey of Baltimore; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Walton will be held Friday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Alton with the Rev. Herbert Pettiford and the Rev. Bruce Featherston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at Jeffress Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and other times at the residence of Mrs. Mary Humphrey, 374 Royster Clay Road, Roxboro, NC.
