Mrs. Annie (Lizzie) Barksdale Chaney of Westside Drive, South Boston died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 79.
Mrs. Chaney was born in Halifax County on Feb. 26, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Mr. Arthur Lee Barksdale Sr. and Mrs. Emma Crews Barksdale. She was married to the late Mr. Roy Elijah Chaney and was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church.
Mrs. Chaney is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Rosa Mae Walton of Clarksville, Mrs. Annie Barksdale Edmonds and Ms. Patty Lavern Barksdale, both of South Boston; two sons, Mr. George Eddie Barksdale of Lynchburg and Mr. David Junior Barksdale of South Boston; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Lee Womack of Vernon Hill and Mrs. Isabel Williams of Halifax; one brother, Mr. James Calvin Barksdale and wife, Ida of Halifax; one aunt, Mrs. Annie Maude Kirby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Mr. John Henry Barksdale, Mr. Glenn Wayne Barksdale and Mr. Kenneth Barksdale; two sister, Mrs. Mary L. Llewellyn and Ms. Margaret Barksdale; four brothers, Mr. Tommie Barksdale, Mr. Junior J. Barksdale, Mr. Charlie Barksdale and Mr. Arthur Lee Barksdale Jr.
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Barksdale Chaney will be Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at noon at New Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. John Anthony Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Annie B. Edmonds, 500 Westside Drive, South Boston.
