Carrol J. Hunt “C. J.” of Nathalie passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at home. He was the loving husband of Phyllis Conway Bruffy Hunt.
Mr. Hunt was born March 27, 1936 a son of the late Memory Ryland Hunt and Effie Arthur Hunt. In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Hunt, Clarence Hunt and Russell Hunt; a brother-in-law, Junior Henderson; sisters-in-law, Frances Hunt and Martha Hunt; and one step-daughter, Jean Bruffy Stull.
A member of Mulberry Baptist Church, Carrol was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a Virginia State Trooper for 15 years and was a retired security officer from Babcock & Wilcox.
C. J. loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and woodworking. He never tired of trying new canning recipes and sharing them. He also loved fishing and anything historical, many times taking family to Jamestown and Williamsburg to share his love of history.
In addition to his wife, Carrol leaves to cherish his memory, a step-son, Gary Bruffy; three step-daughters, Wanda Metcalf (Wendell), Diane Wisecarver (Charlie) and Jane Gagnon (Wayne); two brothers, Irving Hunt (Doris) and Winfree Hunt (Margaret); one sister, Nannie Bell Henderson; one sister-in-law, Ruby Hunt; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Mulberry Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and other times at the residence.
