Mr. Henry Mitchell Lipscomb of Alton died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Danville Regional Hospital at the age of 64.
Mr. Lipscomb was born in Halifax County on April 1, 1948 to the late Mr. Odell Lipscomb Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Richardson Lipscomb. He was married to Mrs. Thelma Hamlett Lipscomb and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Lipscomb is survived by his wife, Mrs. Thelma H. Lipscomb, of the home; three sons, Mr. Gary Lipscomb and wife Dana of Norfolk, Mr. Roderick Lipscomb and Mr. Travis Lipscomb, both of Alton; one step-daughter, Ms. Janice Hamlett, of South Boston; one step-son, Mr. Terrance Hamlett, of Burke; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mark Link, of South Boston; two brothers, Mr. Odell Lipscomb Jr. and wife Mary of South Boston and Mr. Leonard Lipscomb and wife Geraldine of Mebane, N.C.; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the devoted Mr. Curtis Woods and Mr. Walter Irby.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lipscomb is preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Barbara Satterfield, and one brother, Mr. Willis Lipscomb.
Funeral services for Mr. Henry Mitchell Lipscomb will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Alton with the Rev. Harvey Bigelow and the Rev. Gerald Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 2234 Alton Post Office Road, Alton. Public viewing for family and friends will be held Monday, Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
