George Allen ‘Dick’ Yancey

George Allen “Dick” Yancey, 80, of 200 Dick Yancey Lane, Henderson, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, N.C.


Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late George Harvey Yancey and Mary Terry Yancey.

Mr. Yancey was the retired owner and president of Dick Yancey Trucking Company, Inc. He was a charter member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C., the James B. Green Masonic Lodge #735 AF & AM, the Henderson York Rite Bodies, Allied Masonic Degrees, the Scottish Rite Bodies (32nd degree), Amran Temple (Charter Member), Wake County Shrine Club, Henderson Shrine Club, the Granville County Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters and the Henderson Moose Lodge.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at 2 p.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lena Culley Yancey; four daughters, Cindy Y. Wilson of Garner, N.C., Tammy Y. Putz of Raleigh, N.C., Patsy Y. Wiley and husband Ted of Raleigh, N.C. and Mamie Y. Harris and husband Jeff of Willow Spring, N.C.; a sister, Lois Y. Hite of Smithfield, N.C.; two brothers, Crafton Yancey of Pollocksville, N.C., and Harvey Yancey of Winterville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Laura Gilchrist and husband Josh of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kaylena Putz of Raleigh, N.C., Heather Carden and husband Josh of Raleigh, N.C., Patrick Wiley of Raleigh, N.C., and Ashton Harris of Willow Spring, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Gilchrist, of Colorado Springs, Colo. 

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Linda G. Yancey, and a brother, Wayne Yancey.

The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times they will be at the home, 200 Dick Yancey Lane, Henderson, N.C.

Masons will serve as active pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Amran Temple, 11101 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27614.
