Mr. Ray Edward Fowler, 79, of 1161 Fowler Trail, South Boston died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville. He was born July 2, 1933 in Cherokee County, S.C., the son of the late Edward Fowler and the late Ethel Blackwell Fowler. He was married to Bobbie Rogers Fowler for 61 years.
Mr. Fowler was a member of Faith Community Church, Faulkner Memorial Masonic Lodge #91, the American Association of State Troopers, and the Virginia Association of State Troopers. He was employed as a Virginia State Police for 33 years as a Special Agent (Retired), and he served in the Coast Guard.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include one son, Larry Hasian of Fort Mill, S.C.; two daughters, Vicki F. Carr and husband W. Doug Carr, a son in the truest sense as an unwavering source of love and support, and Kimberly Fowler, all of South Boston; one sister, Dorothy Jean ‘Dot’ Robbins of Lexington, N.C.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his special caregiver and friend, Caroline Jones; and his beloved dog, J.R.
In addition to his parents, three brothers, James, Bobby and Jimmy Fowler, also preceded Mr. Fowler in death.
Funeral services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home chapel Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Jack Stewart and Dane Skelton officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of his daughter, Kim Fowler, 4415 Brentwood Drive, South Boston.
