Mrs. Fannie Alice Hankins Cole of River Road, South Boston died Dec. 16 at Berry Hill Nursing Home at the age of 88.
Mrs. Cole was born in Halifax County on Sept. 8, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Mr. Robert M. Hankins and Mrs. Rosa Brown Hankins. She was married to the late Mr. James Edward Cole Sr. and was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Fannie Alice Hankins Cole is survived by three granddaughters, Ms. Kim Guthrie of Danville, Ms. Tammy Guthrie and Mrs. Stephanie Dixon and husband Darryl, all of South Boston; five grandsons, Mr. Edward Fitzgerald and Mr. Darnell Cole, both of Woodbridge, Mr. James Cole III and Mr. Delandor Cole, both of South Boston, and Mr. Preston Cole of Winchester; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Mr. Albert Guthrie; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Shirine Hankins; nine sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Haskins was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary A. Guthrie and Dorothy I. Cole; two sons, James E. Cole Jr. and Calvin L. Hankins; nine siblings, Luther, Arthur, Robert, Charlie, Kate, Irene, Louise, Annie and Hattie.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Alice Hankins Cole will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Divens and the Rev. Tommy F. Crews Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her granddaughter, Ms. Tammy Guthrie, and son-in-law Mr. Albert Guthrie at 105 Greenfield Road, South Boston.
