Mr. Joshua Carden Jr. of Dryburg Road, Clover died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at The Woodview at the age of 88.
Mr. Carden was born in Halifax County on Dec. 12, 1924 and was the son of the late Mr. Joshua Carden Sr. and Mrs. Verlee Coleman Carden. He was married to the late Mrs. Peggy Mosley Carden and was a member of Spanish Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors of Mr. Carden include four daughters, Mrs. Revern Moss and husband James and Ms. Scherlie Buster, all of Scottsburg, Mrs. Evelyn Easley and husband Leon of Halifax and Mrs. JoAnn Coleman and husband Michael of Crystal Hill; two sons, Mr. Garfield ‘Pete’ Carden and wife Karen and Mr. Wayne Carden, all of Scottsburg; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Willie Mae Coleman of Scottsburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends, including Mrs. Patsy Edmondson.
In addition to his wife and parents, one son, Mr. Richard Carden; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Staten and Mrs. Maria Mitchell; and two brothers, Mr. Cecil Carden and Mr. Roy Carden, also preceded Mr. Carden in death.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Spanish Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Womack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 5143 Dryburg Road, Scottsburg.
