Mrs. Katie Tucker Burns Oliver of Burns Trail, Halifax died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at her residence at the age of 77.
Mrs. Oliver was born in Halifax County on Aug. 17, 1935 to the late Mr. Paul Burns and Mrs. Cleavie Garrett Burns. She was married to the late Mr. John Yancey Oliver and was a retired employee of Burlington Industries.
Mrs. Oliver is survived by one daughter, Ms. Brenda Oliver, of Richmond; one granddaughter, Mrs. Kaila Valdez, of Richmond; four brothers, Mr. Lester Burns and wife Gwen, Mr. John Burns and Mr. Paul Burns and wife Emma, all of Halifax, and Mr. Henry Burns of Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Hester White and Mrs. Evelyn Cunningham and husband Joel, all of Halifax; four sisters-in-law, the devoted Mrs. Catherine “Cattie” Burns, the devoted Mrs. Gwendolyn Burns, Mrs. Jennie Hopson and Mrs. Gwendolyn Daniels; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the devoted Ms. Estelle Forest and Ms. Clara Nerva.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Mr. Elton Burns, Mr. Theady Burns, Mr. Robert Burns, Mrs. Pauline Edmonds and Mrs. Margaret Pollard.
Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Tucker Burns Oliver will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at noon at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax. Burial will follow in the Burns Family Cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1073 Burns Trail, Halifax, VA. Public viewing hours will be Monday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel.
