Mr. Aubrey Lacy Carter of South Boston died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County on Oct. 31, 1926 and was 86 years old. He was the son of the late Charlie Edward Carter and the late Lillian Edwards Carter and was married 52 years to Jeanette Landrum Carter who survives.
He was a member of the Olive Branch United Methodist Church and a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8. Aubrey worked at VEPCO for over 40 years, as a lineman and safety supervisor, and he retired in 1987.
He was an avid bowler, golfer and hunter in his life. He was inducted in the South Boston Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2002.
Mr. Aubrey Lacy Carter is survived by his wife, Jeanette Landrum Carter, of South Boston; five sisters, Sarah Calvert of Danville, Mary Ellen Goss and husband Charles of Niceville, Fla., Mildred Wilson of Danville, Hilda Nostrandt and husband Bob of Richmond, Jane Saunders of Clinton, Md.; four brothers, Jack Carter and wife Ruth of Alton, Charles Carter and wife Excie of Petersburg, Thomas Carter and wife Elsie of Danville, Jimmy Carter and wife Margaret of Danville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Woodfin officiating.
The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home.
