Mr. Melvin Wells Jr. of Pine Trail, Halifax died Nov. 29, 2012 at the Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson, Md. at the age of 78.
Mr. Wells was born in Halifax County on Sept. 26, 1934, and was the son of the late Mr. Melvin Wells Sr. and Mrs. Malissie Ferrell Wells. He was married to Mrs. Bessie Dorsey Wells and was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church.
Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie D. Wells; two sons, Mr. Lawrence Davis Wells of Halifax and Mr. Damon Lamont Holmes and his fiancé, Denise, of Baltimore, Md.; his step daughter, Ms. Sallie Martin, of Glen Allen; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Tucker of Vernon Hill, Mrs. Florine Edmonds and husband Walter and Mrs. Marie Leigh and husband Edward, all of Halifax; one brother, Mr. George Crews and wife Annette of Halifax,; one step sister, Mrs. Belle Jackson, of Baltimore, Md.; 18 grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mrs. Classie Crews, Mrs. Patricia Crews, Mrs. Martha Wells, Mrs. Dorothy Crews. Mrs. Hilda Whalen and Mrs. Barbara Whalen; brothers-in-law, Mr. Henry Whalen, Mr. Jerry Whalen and Mr. Thomas Dorsey and wife Margie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the devoted Ms. Shareon Smith.
Funeral services for Mr. Wells will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at New Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Nelson Stamps officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1004 Pine Trail, Halifax.
Public viewing hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
