Adele Wood Burns, age 76, of 1310 Porter Lane, South Boston departed this life at Halifax Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.
She was born April 16, 1936 in South Boston to the late Beverly Wood and Eliza Jennings Wood Medley.
Adele was preceded in death by her husband Deacon Charles Burns Sr.; her father, Beverly Wood; her mother, Eliza Jennings Wood Medley; one sister, Mattie Wood; one brother, Calvin Wood.
She leaves to lovingly cherish her memory, five sisters, Lillie Mae Wood, Halifax; Evangelist Dolly M. Jeffress, Rennselaer, N.Y.; Gladys L. Holt and Mamie Delores Price, both of South Boston; and Dorothy Loraine Moorman of Lennig; two brothers, Deacon Luther I. Wood and Beverly David Wood, both of South Boston; mother-in-law—Sarah Burns of South Boston; step-son—Charles (Chick) Burns, Albany, N.Y.; step-daughter, Glendora Williams, N.C.; and a host of sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Burns will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Sunflower Baptist Church (State Road 603), Nathalie with Pastor Robert M. Tucker Jr. officiating. Interment will be held at Berry Hill Baptist Church Cemetery (family plot/ the old location).
Viewing was noon until 6 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston. The family is receiving friends at the home, 1310 Porter Lane, South Boston.
The family is greatly appreciative of the care provided by Dr. Sharon Reilly of Charlotte Courthouse and the Halifax Regional Hospice.
