Betty Stephens Saunders of Alton died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at The Woodview nursing home.
She was born March 1, 1932 in Halifax County and was 80 years old. She was the daughter of the late Alvis Belt Stephens Sr. and the late Sally Hall Stephens Conner and was married to the late James Gratan Saunders.
She was a member of Seven Oaks Baptist Church and retired from J.P. Stevens.
Mrs. Betty Stephens Saunders is survived by one daughter, Vicky S. Pyatt, and husband Roger of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Eron Pyatt of Greensboro, N.C., Zachary Saunders of Alton and James Saunders of Alton; one daughter-in-law, Linda Saunders, of Alton; a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Saunders; two brothers, Jesse Stephens and A. B. “Junoir” Stephens; and one sister, Mary Watson.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
