Mr. George William Mandel Sr. of South Boston died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at The Woodview.
He was born in Baltimore, Md. on July 3, 1928 and was 84 years old. He was the son of the late John Michael Mandel Sr. and Rose Elizabeth Harman Mandel and was married to the late Mary Emily Severson Mandel.
He was a retired steel worker with Bethlehem Steel, was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Mandel is survived by one daughter, Shirley Mandel, of South Boston; one son, Paul Mandel, and wife Karen of South Boston; four grandchildren, Rebekah Hudgins of South Boston, Joshua Mandel and wife Kristie of Minneapolis, Minn., Rachel Espinosa and husband Sam of Lynchburg, Sarah Mandel of South Boston; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, George William Mandel Jr.; two great-grandsons, Jacob Andrew Hudgins and Lucus Samuel Espinosa; and by two brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Brother Doug Bowen conducting the service.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
