Mrs. Hazel Reaves Spencer of Cluster Springs died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on June 30, 1921 and was 91 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Jessie Finch Reaves and Virgie Garrett Reaves and was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Elmo Spencer.
Mrs. Spencer was a long time member of Black Walnut Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a retired employee of Leggett Department Store.
Mrs. Spencer is survived by one daughter, Brenda S. McPeters, of Scottsburg; one son, Harold Spencer, of South Boston; two grandchildren, Amy Carson and Natalie Torrence; two step-grandsons, Cory and Kevin McPeters; four great-grandsons, Griffin and Isaac Carson, Preston Seamon and Lleyton Burkholder; five sisters, Gladys Simmons, Mary Irby, Peggy Barker, Joyce Moore and Hilda Thomas.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Reaves Reeves and Frenchie Reaves Lewis, and two brothers, Ernest and Willis Reaves.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Reaves Spencer were held at Black Walnut Baptist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at the church following the service.
