Mrs. Shirley Hackney Blalock of 103 Elizabeth Court, South Boston, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 69.
Mrs. Blalock was born April 18, 1943 the daughter of the late Charles Henry Hackney and the late Hallie Powell Hackney
She was married to Jeffrey Blalock of South Boston.
She worked in retail.
Mrs. Blalock is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Blalock, of South Boston; her pet bird, Homer; her sister, Thelma Hackney Guill, and husband Larry of South Boston; her nephew, Travis Guill, of Blacksburg; many aunts, uncles and cousins; five friends, Johny Turner of Scottsburg, Joan Spencer of Richmond, Shirley Watts and husband Joe of Scottsburg, Judy Martin and family of Halifax and Alfred Ligon.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blalock was preceded in death by three special cousins, Lennie Clements, Harvey Watts, David Hackney; special aunts and uncles, four special friends, Jeanette Ligon, Corrie Mae Griffin, Mary Watts Conner and Harry Watts; and her special loving dogs, Spanky and Birdie.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Blalock will be Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Oak Ridge Cemetery at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Rathel officiating.
Visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
