Mrs. Ruby Bowen Powell, 82, of Buffalo Junction, and the widow of Albert Roy Powell, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in South Boston. The daughter of the late Bennie Clarence and Fannie Overbey Bowen, Ruby was born Jan. 11, 1930. She was retired from Burlington Industries with 40 years of service and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Revs. Dr. William Weeks and Dr. David Pruett officiating. Interment will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughters, Patricia Powell (Wesley Scott) of Buffalo Junction, and Janet Painter (Bobby) of Roxboro, NC; and sons, Tony Powell (Wanda) and Albert Roy ‘Buck’ Powell Jr. (Wendy), all of Buffalo Junction. Mrs. Powell’s sister and brother-in-law, Pauleen B. and Lawrence Wall; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, James Bennie Powell; and three siblings, Nina Coghill, Annette Coghill, and Wallace Bowen Sr.
The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
