Mr. James Alvis Bowman, 72, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.
Born Oct. 27, 1939, Alvis was the son of the late James Joseph and Doris Puryear Bowman.
He was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Bowman worked 39 years at Harriett and Henderson Cotton Mill and was a member of Nelson Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Wilson and Norman Talley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bowman is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Randal and his wife, Deborah, of Nelson, Rodney and his wife, Norma, of Oxford, N.C., Ronald and his fiancé, Miranda, of Nelson; and his daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Dennis Morris, of Virgilina.
Also surviving Alvis Mr. Bowman are his brothers, Thomas B. Bowman of Roxboro, N.C., and Mac Bowman of Hitesburg; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Nelson Baptist Church.
