Mrs. Mary Emily Severson Mandel of South Boston died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Berry Hill Health and Rehab Center in South Boston. She was born in Baltimore, Md. on April 24, 1935 and was 77 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph Severson and Benedicta Cameron Severson and was married to George William Mandel Sr., who survives.
Mrs. Mandel was of the Episcopal Faith.
In addition to her husband of South Boston, survivors include one daughter,
Shirley Mandel of South Boston; one son, Paul Mandel and wife Karen of South Boston; four grandchildren, Rebekah Hudgins of South Boston, Joshua Mandel and wife Kristie of Minneapolis, Minn., Rachel Espinosa and husband Sam of Lynchburg, and Sarah Mandel of South Boston; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria McLewee of Pennsylvania; and one brother, Thomas Severson of Pennsylvania.
One son, George William Mandel Jr.; and two great-grandsons, Jacob Andrew Hudgins and Lucas Samuel Espinosa, also preceded Mrs. Mandel in death.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Doug Bowen, minister of the South Boston Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
