James E. Forrest Sr.

Mr. James E. Forrest Sr., age 72, of Appomattox departed this life suddenly on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at his residence. 

He was born in Halifax County on March 28, 1940 and was the son of the late Johnnie P. Forrest and Tomato J. Forrest. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Clara Barksdale. 

James was educated in the Halifax County Public School system. He was a member of the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church.

James was an active member of the trustee board and formerly served on the usher board. He also served on the kitchen committee at both his church and the Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served alongside his wife. 

James worked many years at the Lynchburg Foundry and then at Griffin Pipe Products from where he retired after more than 15 years of employment.

He is survived by his devoted wife and friend of 45 years, Vivian Jennings Forrest; three loving children, James E. Forrest Jr. (Harriet) of Charlottesville, Rodney R. Forrest (Denise) of Nathalie and Shelley K. Forrest-Foultz (Chris) of Midlothian; six grandchildren, JaKayla Forrest, Reigna Forrest, Madison Foultz, Braeden Foultz, Candace Crawley and Shannon Hughes; three brothers, Less Forrest (Frances) of Brookneal, Mitchell Forrest (Grace) of Seat Pleasant, Md. and Johnnie Forrest of Lynchburg; three sisters, Joyce Halloway (Jeremiah) of Nathalie, Shirley Jackson (Raymond) of Washington, D.C. and Gloria Taylor (Joseph) of Fort Washington, Md.; four sisters-in-law, Erma Hamlor (Fred), Reva Slayton (Calvin), Grace Richardson and Cornelia Bush (Phillip); five brothers-in-law, Willie Jennings (Joann), Raymond Jennings (Alice), Sherman Jennings, Warren Jennings and Ulysses Jennings (Shelby); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Nathalie with interment in the New Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Nathalie.
