Mr. William Lindsay ‘Bill’ Harnsberger Jr., age 70 of Patrick Springs, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. He was born in Henry County on Sept. 15, 1942, to the late William Lindsay Harnsberger Sr. and Ruth Smoot Harnsberger. Mr. Harnsberger served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and had retired from the United States Postal Service with 20 years of service. He was a member of Stuart United Methodist Church, and was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed being outdoors with his family and friends.
Mr. Harnsberger is survived by is wife, Carolyn Ayers Harnsberger, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Scotty Thompson of Spencer; one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Christy Harnsberger of Advance, N.C.; four grandchildren, Nash Thompson, Tripp Thompson, Kyleigh Harnsberger and Bryce Harnsberger; and one sister, Ruth Carroll Harnsberger, of Stuart.
A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Patrick Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Fred Gilley officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the home Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and following the graveside service Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Patrick County 4-H Shooting Club, c/o Dale Owens, P.O. Box 128, Stuart, VA 24171.
